Lexus’ first luxury pure electric model, the UX 300e, was launched in China on Sunday and it will be available in Europe later this year.

The Lexus Pure Electric UX 300e is equipped with a 54.3 kWh lithium battery pack and has a combined NEDC range of 248 miles (400 km).

The new car is available in 2 models priced at 362,000 yuan ($51,100) and 385,000 yuan ($54,300) respectively.

The new pure electric UX 300e is based on the GA-C platform and is powered by a Lexus high output permanent magnet synchronous motor. In addition, the car has an excellent aerodynamic design.

The Lexus UX 300e won’t be available in Europe until later this year, and will be launched in Japan in early 2021.

Lexus was founded in 1983 as a luxury car brand under the Toyota Group in Japan. Toyota plans to launch 10 electric vehicles in China by 2025. And there is growing evidence that the company will deliver on the promise of these 10 electric vehicles.

In July last year, Toyota announced a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), China’s largest automotive lithium-ion battery maker, on new energy vehicle batteries.

Earlier this month, Toyota and BYD officially announced the incorporation of a new joint venture – BYD Toyota Electric Vehicle Technology Co.
