BYD reportedly to launch large pure electric buses in Japan

BYD Japan will launch large pure electric buses as public transportation in Japan, with a range of 220 kilometers for an ordinary 10.5-meter class vehicle, the Chinese version of Nikkei reported Friday.

The electric bus, named K8, will cost 38.5 million yen ($370,000) excluding tax, and they will start deliveries in January 2021, aiming to sell 2,000 units within five years, the report said.

The vehicle can carry 75 to 81 passengers, has a battery capacity of 287 kWh, and supports the fast charging standard CHAdeMO. parts have been adjusted for easy maintenance, and they also support a management system that grasps driving status.

BYD Japan previously launched the mass-produced small all-electric bus J6 for delivery to Ueno Zoo (Taito-ku, Tokyo) and Hausdenberg (Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture), among others.
