Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory appears to have started production of the Model Y in full-swing.
A large number of vehicles are parked at the Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory, as shown in images posted by Twitter user @ray4tesla, who said that it looks like Giga Shanghai is churning out more Model Ys than Model 3s.

The Shanghai Gigafactory Phase II campus is also the production site for the Model Y. Tesla and its construction partners are ahead of schedule in completing construction of the Model Y production plant, despite the Covid-19 impact on the construction of the second phase of the campus in 2020.
On January 1, Tesla announced that the China-made Model Y was officially on sale. According to the pricing announced on Tesla’s website, the Long Range and Performance versions start at RMB 339,900 and RMB 369,900 respectively, a price reduction of about RMB 148,100 and RMB 165,100 compared to the previous imported versions.
The product page shows that some Model Y models are eligible for the China new energy vehicle purchase tax exemption, saving up to about RMB 37,000.
Tesmanian previously quoted sources as saying that within 10 hours of the price cut announcement, orders for the Model Y soared to more than 100,000 units.
However, according to Yicai.com, Tesla insiders said that Model Y reservations and test drive demands were high, but that the 10-hour, 100,000-order figure was inflated.
