Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng Motors announced Tuesday that it has expanded services of free lifetime charging for owners to 25 cities in China’s Yangtze River Delta region, adding 145 new charging stations to bring the total to 326.
The number of charging stations increased from 52 to 94 in Shanghai, from 59 to 124 in Zhejiang, and from 70 to 108 in Jiangsu, the company said.
Among them, Lianyungang in Jiangsu province, Zhoushan, and Lishui in Zhejiang province are the cities covered by Xpeng’s free charging service for the first time.
The Yangtze River Delta region is one of the most economically developed regions in China. The expansion of Xpeng’s free charging service sites is mainly carried out through cooperation with charging operators, including State Grid and Southern Grid.
Since the announcement of a free lifetime charging service for vehicle owners on September 26, 2020, Xpeng has established 815 free charging stations for vehicle owners in 103 cities through both its own branded stations and preferred third-party stations with mainstream charging operators.
By mid-2021, Xpeng hopes to expand the number of cities where owners can enjoy free charging to 200, and enhance the charging experience for owners in multiple scenarios such as highways and airports, the company previously said.
