BYD, the Chinese new energy vehicle company backed by legendary US investor Warren Buffett, delivered the first all-electric bus to Volánbusz, one of Hungary’s largest public transport operators, on June 15 local time.
The bus will operate between Komárom, where BYD’s Hungarian plant is located, and Komárno, Slovakia, and is the first-ever all-electric bus to operate across the border in both countries.
The 12-meter-long bus, manufactured at BYD’s Hungarian plant, is BYD’s main model in Europe.
It has a single range of 300 kilometers on a full charge and can carry up to 80 passengers.
It is worth mentioning that this bus has also received funding from the EU Interreg program.
The Hungarian all-electric bus and truck factory is BYD’s first factory in Europe and the first electric vehicle factory invested by a Chinese new energy brand in Europe.
The plant employs more than 300 people, more than 90 percent of whom are locally hired. The plant can produce 300 pure electric buses per year in a single shift.
Komárom, located on the south bank of the Danube, and Komárno, located on the north bank of the Danube, were historically part of one administrative unit. Currently, they belong to Hungary and Slovakia, respectively.
