BYD, the Chinese electric car company backed by legendary US investor Warren Buffett, sold 32,800 new energy vehicles in May, up 190 percent from a year earlier and 28 percent from April.

It sold 31,681 new energy passenger vehicles in May, including 18,711 pure electric vehicles and 12,970 plug-in hybrids, the company announced Monday on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
BYD sold 1,119 new energy commercial vehicles in May, including 772 buses.
From January to May, BYD sold 113,213 new energy vehicles, an increase of 143.41% year-on-year. Among them, 110,095 new energy passenger vehicles were sold, an increase of 148.05% year-on-year.
From January to May, BYD sold 73,424 pure electric vehicles, up 101.97% year-on-year, and 36,671 plug-in hybrids, up 356.62% year-on-year.
BYD’s combined vehicle sales in May were 46,295 units, of which 13,495 units were fuel vehicles.
BYD’s total installed capacity of new energy vehicle power and storage batteries in May was approximately 2.502 GWh, and the cumulative installed capacity for the year was approximately 9.930 GWh.
