Chinese new energy vehicle company BYD’s compact EV Dolphin recently appeared on the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s product list and is expected to go on sale in the third quarter at the earliest.

The new vehicle, previously unveiled at the 2020 Shanghai auto show, had been named EA1 and is based on the BYD e-platform 3.0.

The new car is built with the new design concept of “Ocean Aesthetics”, and the overall body shape is very rounded.

It has a smoked black front panel with a “U” shaped chrome trim, which cleverly connects the LED headlight clusters on both sides.

BYD Dolphin is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a maximum power of 70 kilowatts, a maximum speed of 150km/h, and a lithium iron phosphate battery pack.

The car’s length, width and height are 4,070 (4125) / 1,770 / 1,570mm, with a wheelbase of 2,700mm.

As seen in the declaration photos, the car is available in a variety of colors, and the rearview mirror, roof, and front and rear bumper trim are freely configurable.

BYD’s e-platform 3.0 has four major domain controllers under the new electrical and electronic architecture and BYD OS, an in-house developed vehicle operating system.

Based on this electrical and electronic architecture and BYD OS, electric vehicles will be able to have more powerful autonomous driving capabilities. Meanwhile, the iteration speed of new functions can be shortened from two months to two weeks, shortening the function iteration cycle by more than 70 percent.

EVs built with e-platform 3.0 can accelerate from 0 to 100km as fast as 2.9s and has a maximum combined range of over 1000km.
