BYD continues to receive orders for purely electric buses from overseas markets.
On July 19, BYD’s local bus manufacturer partner in the UK, Alexander Dennis (ADL), signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the National Transport Authority (NTA) in Ireland, BYD said.
Under the agreement, ADL will supply 200 12-meter BYD ADL Enviro200EV all-electric single-deck buses to the NTA over the next five years, with the first 45 units to be delivered starting in 2022.
BYD said this is the largest pure electric bus tender project in Ireland to date, and marks the first time that ADL’s pure electric bus products in partnership with BYD have entered the Irish market after being put into operation in the UK and New Zealand markets.
The first 45 buses will be in operation in 2022 on a number of routes in Ireland’s capital and largest city, Dublin, and the central industrial city of Athlone.
NTA CEO Anne Graham said that over the next five years, NTA will continue to introduce a large fleet of modern, zero-emission buses to Ireland’s transport network.
The purchase agreement demonstrates ADL’s ability to provide operators with vehicles of different sizes to meet diverse operational needs, said Paul Davies, managing director of ADL.
BYD‘s products are becoming the preferred choice of mainstream European operators as BYD’s cooperation with the region deepens, according to Frank Thorpe, managing director of the company’s UK branch.
