The central Chinese province of Henan, hit by rare heavy rains and flooding, has received a large number of corporate donations, with Geely being the latest car company to do so.
Geely announced Wednesday that its brands donated a total of 30 million yuan ($4.64 million) in cash and equipment to Henan Province through the Li Shufu Charity Foundation.
This includes RMB 25 million in cash and RMB 5 million worth of three industrial-grade drones and auxiliary equipment from Geely’s Aerofugia specifically designed for disaster surveys.
Aerofugia will also send a professional team to provide technical guidance to local rescue teams, Geely said.
The company said it and Lynk & Co have mobilized dealers and service stations nationwide to activate 24×7 emergency roadside assistance access, emergency repair access, priority spare parts availability, and set up specialists to assist with vehicle damage insurance claims.
Geely said it may further expand its donation depending on the needs of the disaster.
Earlier today, Li Auto announced a donation of 10 million RMB to Henan. Both Xpeng Motors and Nio later announced donations of 15 million yuan each.
Beginning on July 18, the city of Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province, was hit by heavy rainfall, with cumulative average precipitation reaching 449 mm and 38% of weather stations measuring cumulative precipitation of over 500 mm.
The rainstorm was extremely rare, with some Internet users claiming that the amount of rainfall was like having 150 reservoirs of Hangzhou’s West Lake dumped into Zhengzhou in one hour.
The disaster has left 25 dead and seven missing, according to CCTV on Wednesday.
