LFP battery installations in China led ternary batteries for the eighth consecutive month.

China’s power battery installed base rose 145.1 percent year-on-year to 13.7 GWh in February, but was down 15.5 percent from January, according to data released today by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).

Ternary batteries installed in February were 5.8 GWh, up 75.6 percent year-on-year, but down 19.9 percent from January.

Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery installations were 7.8 GWh, up 247.3 percent year-on-year, but down 12.3 percent from January.

This is the eighth consecutive month that LFP batteries have been ahead of ternary batteries in terms of the installed base in China.

The combined installed base of the top 3 makers was 10.6 GWh, accounting for 77.7 percent of the total installed base, the CABIA data shows.

The top 5 and top 10 power cell makers had an installed base of 11.7 GWh and 13 GWh respectively, accounting for 85.4 percent and 94.8 percent of the total installed base respectively.

China’s power battery production in February was 31.8 GWh, up 236.2 percent year-on-year and unchanged from January.

Among them, the production of ternary batteries was 11.6 GWh, accounting for 36.6 percent of the total, up 127.2 percent year-on-year and unchanged from January.

Lithium iron phosphate battery production was 20.1 GWh, accounting for 63.1 percent of total production, up 364.1 percent year-on-year, unchanged from January.
