China NEV insurance registrations for week ending Feb 26: BYD 39,473, Tesla 10,705, Nio 3,357-CnEVPost

Insurance registrations for new energy vehicles (NEVs) from a number of car companies continued to rebound last week, with Tesla growing significantly.

For the week ending February 26, BYD’s NEVs saw 39,473 insurance registrations, up from 37,026 the week before, according to figures shared by several auto bloggers on Weibo today.

BYD’s all-electric model saw 20,714 insurance registrations last week, up 10.5 percent from the previous week. Its plug-in hybrid models were 18,753 units last week, up 2.6 percent from the previous week.

Tesla vehicles had 10,705 insurance registrations for the week, up from 5,913 the week before. The number was 8,643 and 6,963 in the first and second weeks of February, respectively.

Tesla Model Y had 7,946 insurance registrations last week, and Model 3 had 2,759.

Nio (NYSE: NIO) vehicles had 3,357 insurance registrations last week, up from 3,174 the week before. In the first and second weeks of February, the numbers were 1,948 and 3,045, respectively.

The Nio ET5 contributed 53 percent of the volume with 1,786 insurance registrations last week. ES6 was 634 units, ES7 was 350 units, EC6 was 251 units, ET7 was 232 units and ES8 was 104 units.

Li Auto registered 5,387 insurance units for the week, up from 4,238 units the week before. Its figures for the first and second weeks of February were 2,240 and 4,062 units, respectively.

The Li L9 had 2,146 insurance registrations last week, the Li L8 had 2,939 and the Li L7 had 2. The Li L7 was officially launched on February 8 and its delivery will start on March 1.

Xpeng was 1,685 units last week, up from 1,463 units the week before. The figure was 975 and 1,396 units in the first and second weeks, respectively.

BYD’s Denza brand’s only currently available model, the D9 MPV, saw 1,947 insurance registrations last week, up 5.1 percent from the previous week.

The hybrid version of the D9 saw 1,895 registrations last week, and the all-electric D9 EV, which only began deliveries on February 23, saw 50 units.

Zeekr had 1,855 units last week, up from 1,443 the week before. Neta was 2,152 units and Leapmotor was 401 units for last week.

Volkswagen had 31,698 insurance registrations for all vehicles last week, including 1,352 for NEVs.

Insurance registrations for all passenger vehicles in China were 331,238 last week, up from 303,101 the previous week.

NEVs registered 111,983 units last week, up from 100,408 units the week before.
