Nio (NYSE: NIO) has updated the user manuals for its vehicles to begin including the 150-kWh pack, providing more details about the battery.

The 150-kWh pack weighs 575 kg, which is 20 kg, or 3.6 percent, higher than the 555kg of Nio’s 100-kWh packs.

This means that the pack’s energy density is 261 Wh/kg, 44.44 percent higher than the 100-kWh pack’s 180 Wh/kg.

The pack contains 384 cells, which is higher than the 96 cells in the 100-kWh pack offered by CATL.

The energy density of the cells is 360 Wh/kg, according to information previously shared by its supplier, Beijing WeLion New Energy Technology.

According to the user manuals, the cell has a rated voltage of 3.31 V and a rated capacity of 110 Ah.

Like Nio’s other packs from CATL, the 150-kWh pack has a length, width and height of 2,062 mm, 1,539 mm and 185.6 mm, respectively.

Nio unveiled the 150-kWh semi-solid-state battery when it launched its flagship sedan, the Nio ET7, at the Nio Day 2020 event on January 9, 2021, claiming it would give the vehicle a range of more than 1,000 kilometers.

After that, the battery’s delivery schedule was delayed several times, and Nio filed for using the pack in its models in early May of this year.

On May 24, at the launch of the new ES6, William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, announced that the 150-kWh semi-solid-state battery pack will be available in July.

The new Nio ES6 SUV can get a range of 930 km when equipped with the 150-kWh pack, he said at the time. SUVs typically have higher energy consumption than sedans because of higher wind resistance.

On June 30, WeLion began delivering 360 Wh/kg Li-ion battery cells to Nio with a delivery ceremony in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, where its production base is located.

WeLion executive vice president Xiang Jin formally delivered the battery cells to Nio senior vice president Zeng Shuxiang and submitted a warranty commitment, and the two sides signed an annual order, WeLion said in a July 1 press release, without disclosing the amount of the order.

In addition to the 150-kWh pack, Nio’s latest owner’s manuals also include a 100-kWh pack supplied by CATL’s rival CALB.

CALB was listed as a battery supplier along with CATL in previous filings for several Nio models.

The pack from CALB also weighs 555 kg, the same as the 100-kWh pack from CATL, but contains 192 cells, higher than CATL’s 96 cells.

The CALB pack is the same length and width as the CATL pack, but the height is 2.5 mm less at 183.1 mm.

Here are the specifications of all the power batteries in Nio’s user manual.
