BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDF) has launched the Seal in Nepal, bringing the electric sedan to yet another international market.

BYD recently joined hands with local dealer Cimex Inc to launch the all-electric Seal in Nepal at a starting price of NPR 10.5 million ($79,275), the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced yesterday.

Built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the Seal is its first model based on CTB (cell to body) technology.

Seal offers a battery electric vehicle (BEV) version and the hybrid Seal DM-i in China, with the former offered in five variants starting at RMB 189,800 ($26,440) to RMB 279,800 in its home market.

BYD has been exploring the Nepalese market for several years now. In 2018, the BYD e6 entered the Nepalese presidential fleet.

In October 2022, BYD officially entered the Nepalese passenger car market, with the first model available locally being the Atto 3 — known as the Yuan Plus in China.

In September 2023, BYD launched the compact electric vehicle Dolphin in Nepal.

Officially launched in China on August 29, 2021, the Dolphin is the first product in BYD’s Ocean series and its first production model based on the company’s e-Platform 3.0.

The launches of both the Atto 3 and Dolphin in Nepal were joint efforts by BYD and Cimex.

BYD sold a record 36,174 vehicles in overseas markets in January, although its global NEV sales were down 40.92 percent from December to 201,493 units, according to data released yesterday.

BYD Seal sold 8,347 units in January, up 26.13 percent from a year earlier, but down 58.46 percent from December.
