Nio (NYSE: NIO) has reached the milestone of 3,000 battery swap stations in China, as the electric vehicle (EV) maker continues to push forward with infrastructure development.

The company’s 3,000th battery swap station went live today in Harbin, Heilongjiang province in northeast China, Nio announced today.

William Li, Nio’s founder, chairman and CEO, previewed the milestone two days ago, saying he would be there to witness the moment and experience driving a Nio vehicle in the cold northeast of China.

The company added six battery swap stations in China today, bringing the total number to 3,003, 949 of which are located along highways, according to data compiled by CnEVPost from Nio’s charging map.

Nio completed its first battery swap station in Shenzhen on May 20, 2018, and on July 6, 2022 saw the 1,000th battery swap station come online.

On October 26, 2023, Nio reached 2,000 battery swap stations in China.

To date, Nio has provided about 61.7 million battery swaps.

In addition to the signature battery swap stations, Nio also has one of the largest charging networks in China.

Nio unveiled its Power Up Counties program at its Power Up 2024 event on August 20, 2024, with a goal of having its battery swap station network cover more than 2,300 counties in China’s 27 provincial-level administrative regions by December 31, 2025.

It also aims to have its charging network cover all county-level administrative areas in China by June 30, 2025.

In overseas markets, Nio currently has 59 battery swap stations in Europe.
