Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) has moved up the launch date for its YU7 SUV, which is set to be one of the most important models in China’s electric vehicle (EV) market this year.

Lei Jun, the founder, chairman, and CEO of the smartphone giant, announced today on Weibo that the YU7 will be launched at the end of June.

There will be many other major new products to be launched at the same event, including the second tablet featuring Xiaomi’s in-house developed Xring O1 chip, the Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro, he said.

“We are preparing, see you at the end of the month!” Lei wrote on Weibo.

Xiaomi debuted the YU7 on May 22, with Lei stating at the time that the SUV’s official launch would take place in July.

The SUV’s display models became available in Beijing, where Xiaomi’s headquarters are located, on May 29, and as of June 13, they have become available at 317 Xiaomi EV stores across 86 cities.

The official pricing for the Xiaomi YU7 would only be finalized 1-2 days before the launch, Lei said at an investor conference on June 3.

The starting price of the YU7 will not be just RMB 20,000 ($2,780) higher than the SU7 electric sedan, and it will not be the RMB 235,900 rumored by some, he said.

The SU7, which was launched on March 28, 2024, is Xiaomi’s first EV model, with a starting price of RMB 215,900.

The YU7 has been well-received since its pre-release, outperforming the SU7 sedan when it first debuted, Xiaomi president Lu Weibing said during an earnings call on May 27.

The number of pre-order inquiries for the YU7 following its debut exceeded the SU7’s performance during the same period, Lu noted, adding that as of May 25, the number of users who had paid a deposit to reserve the SUV was about three times that of the SU7 during the same period.

The YU7 has a broader audience than the SU7, and Xiaomi was highly confident in this model, he said.

The SU7 series, including the standard SU7 and SU7 Ultra, has already demonstrated success for Xiaomi in the EV market, with monthly delivery volumes exceeding 20,000 units for eight consecutive months.

Lei said at an investor conference on June 3 that Xiaomi’s EV business is expected to turn profitable in the second half of 2025.
