The vehicle, initially named Seal 05 DM-i in China, has been renamed Seal 5 DM-i for international markets. It becomes BYD’s second plug-in hybrid model offered in Europe, following the Seal U DM-i (originally known as the Song Plus DM-i in China).

Unveiled earlier in 2025, the Seal 5 DM-i was launched domestically in China on February 10 with a highly competitive price of RMB 79,800 (around $11,100), making it one of the most affordable hybrids in its class.

Now available in Poland and Slovakia, the sedan will soon expand into Czech Republic, Romania, and Croatia. In Poland, two trim levels are offered: Comfort and Design, priced from PLN 129,900 ($34,840) and PLN 139,900, respectively.

🔋 Efficient, Smart, and Spacious

The Seal 5 DM-i blends smart technology, comfort, and ultra-low fuel consumption. It delivers a remarkable fuel efficiency of just 1.7 liters per 100 kilometers, helping to reduce long-term ownership costs—an important factor for European buyers.

The car offers a spacious cabin and sizable trunk, paired with BYD’s latest hybrid drivetrain. This technology has already been proven successful through the strong sales of the Song Plus DM-i (Seal U DM-i in Europe).

🌍 Global Ambitions

BYD’s expansion in Europe is part of a larger international strategy. The company entered the European passenger market in September 2022 and now operates in over 110 countries.

In April 2025, BYD achieved a historic milestone by surpassing Tesla in BEV registrations in Europe for the first time, recording 7,231 units compared to Tesla’s 7,165 units (source).

📈 Sales Momentum

In May alone, BYD sold 382,476 vehicles, up 15.27% year-over-year. Of these, 89,047 units were sold overseas, showing 137.46% YoY growth—the sixth consecutive month of record-setting sales.

💬 Executive Insight

According to Stella Li, Executive VP at BYD, “The Seal 5 DM-i offers unmatched range, interior comfort, and practicality. We are confident it will resonate strongly with European customers.”
