Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startup Neta Automobile delivered 11,009 vehicles in May, up 25 percent from April and up 144 percent from a year ago, figures released today show.

Neta’s 8,813 deliveries in April were 27 percent lower than in March, despite being hit less hard than its peers by Covid’s impact on the auto supply chain.

The figures released today mean that Neta’s deliveries recovered in May, albeit below March’s all-time high of 12,026 units.

To date, Neta has delivered a total of 49,974 units this year, up 213 percent from 15,966 units in the same period last year, data monitored by CnEVPost shows.

Neta currently offers three models in China, the Neta V, Neta V Pro and Neta U Pro, most of which start at under RMB 100,000 ($15,740).

The company did not release breakdown delivery figures for these models.

Neta is the EV brand of Hozon Auto, which was founded in October 2014. The first Neta model was launched in November 2018.

At a time when mainstream EV makers were raising prices, Neta’s models also saw a price hike of RMB 3,000 ($472) to RMB 5,000 on March 18.

The price increase is substantial considering the relatively low selling prices of the company’s vehicles, but it doesn’t appear to have had much of an impact on demand.

Notably, China announced yesterday a new round of policies to promote new energy vehicle consumption in rural areas, and Neta’s Neta V and Neta V Pro were included in the list of those eligible to participate in related promotions.
